To, preposition and adverb के साथ साथ infinitive और idioms में भी use किया जाता है। आज मैं to के दस ऐसे use बताऊंगा जो इस्तेमाल तो करते थे पर आपको इनके meaning सही से पता नहीं थे।

Use of To in a sentence as a preposition

1) To – ओर, तरफ को ( in the direction of )

दक्षिण की ओर जाओ और फिर उत्तर की ओर। Go to the south and then to the north.

कारखाना शहर के दक्षिण की ओर स्थित है। The company is situated to the south of the city.

2) To – किसी के पास या करीब ( come near something or someone)

पुलिस उसके पास आ रही था इसलिए वह  थोड़ा घबरा गया था। The police was coming to him so he got nervous a bit.

शेर को अपने तरफ़ आता देखकर, वह जल्दी से गहरे नदी में कूद पड़ा। Having seen a lion coming to him, he quickly jumped into the deep river.

3) To – के लिए ( denotes a purpose लक्ष्य)

हमलोग यहां आए हैं अंग्रेजी सीखने के लिए। We have come here to learn English.

वह टेक से रिलेटेड विडियो खोज रही थी अपने ज्ञान को बढ़ाने के लिए गैजेट से संबंधित। She was searching tech related videos to increase her knowledge regarding gadgets.

4) To – को

उसने मुझको एक उपहार दिया। He gave a gift to me.

क्या तुम यह नोट्स अपने भाई को दे दोगे ? Could you please give this notes to your brother ?

तुम इतनी हड़बड़ी में किसको बुला रहे हो ? To whom are you calling in such a rush ?

5) To – तक ( किसी वस्तु को) शामिल करते हुए

वह शुरू से अंत तक वह पर मौजूद थीं।  She was there from beginning to end.

मजिस्ट्रेट ने परिक्षा हॉल में पहले रौ से आखिर रौ तक अच्छे से जांचा। In examination hall the magistrate inspected thoroughly from first row to last row.

6) To – वहां तक जाना/ पहुंचना ( strech till there )

हमारा घर कॉलेज बिल्डिंग तक फैला हुआ है। Our house extends to the college building.

उसका ऐपरौन उसके घुटनों तक पहुंच रहा था। Her apron was reaching to her knees.

7) To –  से

अगर कोई समस्या होता है तो वह अपने सीनियर से बात करता है। He firstly talks to his senior if any problem arises.

Use of To in a sentence as idioms

कुछ ऐसे common idioms जो to के साथ मिलकर एक नया meaning देता है जैसे कि आप नीचे दिए गए उदाहरणों से समझ सकते हैं।

1) to-and-fro – आगे-पीछे backwards and forwards

पता नहीं क्यों वह प्लैटफॉर्म पर आगे-पीछे क्यों हो रहा था।  I didn’t know why he was walking to-and-fro on the platform.

2) As to – विषय में about

वह यहां से कहां गया है इस विषय में मैं नहीं कह सकता हूं। I can’t say as to where he has gone from here.

3) hand to hand – हाथों-हांथ

नया फैशन वाले कपड़े पलभर में हाथों-हांथ बिक गये। The new-fashioned garments were sold hand to hand in no time.

4) To my mind – मेरी बुद्धि के अनुसार

मेरी बुद्धि कहती हैं कि वह इस हत्या में शामिल नहीं था। To my mind he was not involved in murder case.

5) Face-to-face – आमने-सामने

वे लोग मंच पर आमने-सामने बहस कर रहे हैं। They are having a face-to-face debate on the stage.
